Director Samar Thakur grew up in Pune, India and started his career in filmmaking at the age of 18. He completed his B. Liberal Arts from Savitribai Phule Pune University in 2024. During this time, he worked on various student films like his directional debut 'Bharjari: The Story of Yeola and its Artisans' a documentary which explores the handicraft of making Paithani sarees (traditional clothing) in the small town of Yeola. After completing the Foundation Course in Screenplay Writing from the Film and Television Institute of India, he made his debut independent short film 'Nirop'. Now 23, Samar is working on the short film 'Kalki' as editor & documentary film 'Deconstructing - Jagran & Gondhal' as director. He is looking forward to writing and directing his second short film in 2025, this time with a studio backing him.
